Dorch Stags 9 – HUYFC 0 Jan 21st 10.30

Weather: Dry & Windy Coaches: Chris & Alec

XI: Elyis; Charlie, Max, Callum, Harry, Thomas, Nibs, Ben T, TJ, Louis, Joe

Sub: Ben W

After a week of phone calls and texts and last minute illness – we managed to get a team cobbled together to head to Stags.  Ali kindly re-arranged the game for Saturday morning so we had enough players to field a team – however, with Joe hobbling and Louis the same – up against it somewhat.

Elyis got a call at 9.20 to confirm he was okay to play – so he got dressed and jumped in the car and headed to the game – outstanding effort and much appreciated by all – otherwise we would have had no outfield sub and with Jordan ill in bed – no keeper sort either.

Yet again though, I am writing this wondering what I did wrong in a previous footballing life – surely running a youth team should be easier than this??  With no Piers, no Taric, no Matt, No Will, no Jamie, no Nathan…..I can`t imagine a game this season whereby we have everyone available.

I had also e-mailed all mid-week to clarify that we will need 4 wins out of the last 5 games to remain in Div 1…….ah well……

We started well enough actually with us using the ball to good effect getting the ball down-wind to Joe and Louis upfront – but just couldn`t get any meaningful shots on goal.

Dorchester Stags do have some great players in there – with Pat from Wareham Rangers lad now playing for them – along with Peter and of course Adam and the legend Harrison – so even with our full bunch we would be up against it I guess!??!

Ben T gave everything he had to close down space – Charlie was outstanding in every way – not letting crosses come in; however we just keep making the same basic mistakes – not heading the ball, not getting to the ball first – or even second, not clearing the ball, no composure – I feel bad being this honest; so will stop.

Holt was hanging on to the score all the way through the game – with it being half time at 4-0!

Could this be the first game this season that we are locked out of scoring?

The half time team talks make no difference whatsoever, we have concluded – so we just passed a ball about to keep warm and active. Little bit Hull City – but hey – any ideas welcome!

Second half was same as the first really but into the wind – a penalty hit the bar by them – but it was all one way traffic apart from a great overlapping run by Charlie down the left – great!

Until our players can pass the ball effectively, receive the ball effectively, head the ball effectively, kick the ball effectively – then we are far from able to push further forward with any sort of dynamic force like last year.

We have a genuinely nice bunch of lads at Holt – but the writing is on the wall now and we need to face the fact.

There are players at Holt that will really enjoy Division Two – there are players at Holt that really deserve to be playing Division One – perhaps there is a way of bringing two teams together to make the best of both worlds.

In the meantime we must be thankful of small mercies – our boys are still having fun and are getting some fresh air.
